New entrance to the Botanical Garden in Troja

19.10.2020 — A barrier-free entrance to Prague Botanical Garden was opened in the southern part of St. Claire's Vineyard at the end of September. The garden had been planning to build a new entrance for several years, and their waiting has finally paid off. From now on, visitors can comfortably enter St. Claire's Vineyard directly from Trojská Street, at the intersection between the vineyard walls and Troja Château, where the Kovárna bus stop is conveniently situated.

24.2.2019 — The Map of Accessibility has been making life easier not only for people with reduced mobility but also for seniors and parents with prams since 2016. Currently, detailed and regularly updated information on barrier-free accessibility for more than 1 100 buildings and public spaces in the City of Prague can be found on the map.

New public transport measures

22.3.2020 — According to the Mayor of Prague's instruction, all public transport passengers in Prague are obliged to use respiratory protection, such as a mask, bandana or scarf, from the 17th of March onwards.

PID Lítačka travel card extended by three years

29.1.2020 — PID Lítačka Prague city transport cards, which were first issued in 2016, are set to expire this year. However, the company ICT Operator and Prague City Hall decided to automatically extend the card validity by three years. Therefore, passengers whose cards were due to expire this year will be capable of travelling with Lítačka around Prague and Prague Central Bohemia until 2023.

Celebration of the State Day

13.10.2017 — Customary celebrations of the Independent Czechoslovak State Day include, for example, the appointment of generals by the president, the participation of the Head of State during the Castle Guard oath or awarding of State Honors in the Vladislav Hall at Prague Castle. Significant buildings that are otherwise inaccessible will be open to the public.

State of emergency - COVID-19

13.3.2020 — On Thursday, March 12, the Czech government approved the announcement of an emergency situation throughout the Czech Republic. Emergency is declared for 30 days. Since March 16, Czech government declared ban on traveling abroad and entry of foreigners into the Czech Republic from all around the world. The measures are in effect until further notice. The Chapel of St. Cross on Petřín Hill underwent a complete reconstruction

27.1.2020 — The Municipal Environmental Protection Department of Prague City Hall was responsible for the completion of the reconstruction of the Chapel of St. Cross on Petřín Hill. The chapel, which was damaged by leaking water, is close to Petřín Tower Park Cross. The cost of the repairs was CZK 2.8 million.

Prague Castle Grape Harvest

30.8.2017 — This year’s grape harvest will take place In the Royal Garden of the Prague Castle, on the weekend of September 16th and 17th, 2017. This traditional event is this year associated with the famous Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik whom in the 1920s and 30s modified the Prague Castle. This year we mark the 145th anniversary of his birth and 60th anniversary of his death.

Úvěry hl. m. Prahy

8.9.2022 — Hlavní město Praha spolupracuje s Evropskou investiční bankou (EIB) od roku 1999. Úvěrové zdroje EIB jsou plně v souladu s dlouhodobou finanční politikou hl.m.Prahy a jsou využívány pro realizaci "strategických investičních akcí". EIB úvěry byly v minulosti využity i na sanaci města po povodni v roce 2002. EIB je v současné době největším věřitelem hl.m.Prahy.

20.11.2018 — Hlavní město Praha je prostřednictvím zoologické zahrady zapojeno už více než deset let do mezinárodního systému podpory projektů na záchranu ohrožených druhů ve volné přírodě. Dosud pražská zoo věnovala na tyto projekty dvě koruny z každého vstupu. Za letošní rok to už budou koruny tři, jak dnes schválila městská rada. Návštěvnost zoo se letos dostala přes 1 400 000 vstupů.

12.6.2020 — Czech Railways have prepared nostalgic train rides for the coming weekend, the 13th and 14th of June. The Čtyřkolák steam engine will bring passengers on a historic train journey on a romantic route through the Prokopské Valley and the Prague Semmering.

Prague City Council approve Negrelli Viaduct renovations

29.6.2019 — The extensive reconstruction of the Negrelli Viaduct, the second oldest bridge in Prague, will be followed by the transformation of the bridge's surrounding area, including the space beneath it. According to the proposal recently approved by Prague City Council, a new creative space with cafes, a library, and/or a summer theatre space could be developed under the viaduct.

20.9.2020 — The Náprstek Museum will host a talk on shamanism with the journalist and photographer Stanislav Krupař on the 23rd of September. The lecture 'The current state of shamanism in Tuva' is a part of the accompanying programme of the current exhibition 'At Home in Siberia'.

Volunteers help families with children with special needs

10.4.2020 — The number of volunteers who have registered at the Czech Red Cross tents in Mariánské Square continues to increase. A total of 3,164 volunteers had registered by the 8th of April. Prague is now able to expand its offer of help to families who have children with special needs. As services for them are now limited and special schools are closed, the situation is more challenging than before.
