Dance festival KoresponDance 2019 starts in Prague
Most of the international contemporary dance festival KoresponDance will take place at the Castle in Žďár nad Sázavou, but the opening event will be in Prague. On the 25th of June, dancers will entertain the audience with three performances at the historical building of Invalidovna in Prague. One of the highlights of the evening will be a solo performance by James Batchelor, one of Australia's most amazing dance artists.
Raven and Antarctica
The evening will start at 6pm with Agáta Jarošová’s bird choreography, called ‘Sa Présence’, which was created during a festival residency. In her solo, influenced by the work of photographer Masahisa Fukase, the dancer will completely turn into raven with her movements.
The following performance will be a male solo, HYPERSPACE by James Batchelor, inspired by scientific expeditions to Antarctica. Choreography emphasising the fragility and mortality of the body, it is an example of minimalist yet colossal precision. The performance is the epitome of physical theatre.
African art in the atrium
African rhythms will conclude the evening. ‘Come if you Dare’ is an exceptional intercontinental collaboration of African and European artists that combines the melodies and movements of traditional Ghanaian culture and European Baroque. The musical dance performance was especially created for the space of the atrium in Invalidovna, where excerpts from the operas ‘The Fairy Queen’ and ‘King Arthur’ by Henry Purcell will come to life in an unusual African arrangement in the courtyard by the baroque fountain.
